Our Mission & Vision
Our vision and mission is rebuilding and renewing our community of faith
The pandemic took its toll on many churches—ours included. In fact, we almost didn’t survive that period of time. And yet, by the grace of God, we found a way to move forward. Today, we are in the process of rebuilding and renewing our community of faith as God’s Spirit has ignited a new spark within our congregation. We have re-discovered a new energy and joy in being a part of this vital faith community and it is a joy that we would like to share with you.
Mission & Purpose
United Methodists affirm, “The ministry of all Christians consists of service for the mission of God in the world”.
We seek to live lovingly and justly as servants of Jesus Christ by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, caring for the stranger, freeing the oppressed, being a compassionate presence, and working to develop social structures that are consistent with the gospel.
We aspire to be people of “Open Hearts, Open Minds and Open Doors!”
-
- “Open Hearts” for Love in ACTION
- “Open Minds” for Spiritual DISCOVERY
- “Open Doors” for warm welcome to ALL, and ALL means ALL
Christian faith is a journey. Nobody is ever done. We are people at many ages and stages of life, with questions, hopes and desire to learn and grow in faith. With strong roots in Grass Valley and Nevada County from the mid-1800’s, we are moving into the future with hope!
We welcome ALL people to join us for worship! ALL people are welcome here! We look forward to meeting YOU!

What We Believe…
United Methodist beliefs are not easily delineated in a paragraph or two. Suffice it to say that United Methodists themselves often take pride in the fact that this is so. The reason is that we understand our belief systems to be uniquely personal and that there is often a difference of opinion among us as to what is a core belief and what is not.
With that understanding in mind, it is safe to suggest, however, that our beliefs are centered around the word and witness of Jesus whom we believe to be the Christ (Messiah, Son of God). We believe that, in Jesus, we see what God is like. In the self-less love of Jesus and his willingness to become a humble servant to others, we discover the very nature of God and the very purpose to which we have been called. We believe that we are called by God to live and to love even as Jesus, in other words, to follow him. To be a follower of Jesus means practicing a radical, inclusive love that is rooted in the concepts of forgiveness and grace.
As human beings, we know what it means to be broken and, by the grace of God, we also know what it means to be forgiven and made whole. This is what it means to experience the transforming power of God’s grace and it is central to our understanding of the Christian life. As we understand it, this personal transformation is one that invites us to join forces with one another to work for the transformation of the world. As the Franciscan priest, Richard Rohr, has suggested, “Only transformed people transform people.”
Ultimately, we believe that too many Christians often spend far too much time arguing about their beliefs and not nearly enough time translating those beliefs in to compassionate action. We believe that we are called to be advocates for those whom Jesus referred to as “the least of these.” In other words, those living on the margins of society, the hungry, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned and the stranger (immigrant).
“What if there was a Church that actually, practiced what it preached…Valued asking questions just as much as having answers…Honored the past while embracing the future…Reserved a place at the table for everyone…Walked with the poor and were advocates for the powerless…Viewed service to others as its’ primary form of witness…Practiced a stewardship of the earth and all living things…Viewed difference not as a threat, but a possibility…Believed that listening was a pre-requisite for learning…Chose not to avoid conflict, but to face it with love…A Church actually committed to being open to new ideas and excited about the possibility of thinking and acting outside the box?”
To be honest, we are not there yet, but this is our goal. This is the Church that we dream about being…The kind of church we are in the process of becoming.
