Welcome to the Grass Valley United Methodist Church
We seek the transforming power of God’s love as it calls us to think, learn, grow and serve. Our goal is to practice a progressive faith that is strong enough to question and joyful in conviction. As followers of Jesus, we are “on the way,” meaning in the process of becoming the people and the Church that God is calling us to become. We welcome you to join us on this great journey of faith.
WE ARE A PEOPLE ON THE WAY…
The early followers understood the Christian life was anything but static. To follow Jesus meant they were called to be a people on the move, a people who were learning, growing and becoming someone they were not yet. The way of Jesus was one that invited them to live in the bold confidence God was doing a new thing and God would use them to usher in this new day, one act of compassion and grace at a time. It was an exciting time to be the church!
While much has changed in the 2,000 years, much has come and gone since then, one thing that has remained constant. Our God is still a God on the move, a God who, we believe, has called us to share together in an exciting new venture of faith—one that continues to change even as our world continues to change.
We welcome you to learn more about our journey of faith, read “The People of The Way” (Click Here).
Would you like to help us become the Church we dream about becoming,

A Historic Grass Valley Church
The “Gold Rush” of 1849, not only brought thousands of fortune seekers to Northern California, it also attracted pastors, intent on establishing churches in the new towns, hoping to save some of the gold miner’s souls. Rev. Isaac Owen was a Methodist preacher who arrived in the west with a wagon train. On Sunday, September 23, 1849, the group was camped near Grass Valley, and after the wagons were placed in a circle, Rev. Owen pushed his cane into the soft ground, placed his hat upon it to resemble a pulpit and delivered his morning sermon, possibly the first Methodist worship service in the area.
