Worship is central to our life together at Grass Valley UMC. For it is in worship that we have the opportunity to enact the drama of our lives before the One that we seek to honor. It is in worship that we offer our very presence, our prayers, our praise, our reflection and our response to the Good News of the Gospel. It is in worship that we seek to be honest with ourselves, with each other and with our God as we observe the various rituals of our tradition, both past and present.
While worship, in today’s culture, is often perceived to be dull and on the boring side of life, our goal is to create a very different expression and experience. Our goal is to offer a worship experience that is alive with energy and passionate with feeling. At the very core of it all is the deep desire to encounter the presence of God in ways that can help to transform our lives and ground us in the life that God calls us to live.
WHAT TO EXPECT…
Our worship style cannot be captured by a specific word or description. It is traditional in one sense, but very contemporary in another. We try not to limit ourselves to one way of communicating or celebrating God’s good news. Ours, you see, is a positive and progressive faith, one that, by its very nature, invites our investment in the expression of worship that is open, inclusive and dynamic. In other words, “NOT BORING!”
At Grass Valley UMC, we trust that you will find that our Sunday morning worship services invite you to think, to question, to doubt and to grow. This is, we believe, the needed recipe for an experience of faith that involves more than merely going through the motions. It is our hope that you be willing to “come and see” for yourself if this is not, in fact, the case. We look forward to that possibility!
