Rev. Ron Dunn
Rev. Ron Dunn is a “once retired” United Methodist Pastor who has served in the California Nevada Annual Conference for nearly 46 years. His appointments have included Newcastle UMC (1976), First UMC of Los Gatos (1984), Asbury UMC in Livermore (1992) and San Ramon Valley UMC in Alamo (2001). After retiring from full time ministry in 2018, Ron has spent time as an Interim Pastor at Pioneer UMC in Auburn and in half-time role at Newcastle UMC. As of July 1, 2022, Ron has been appointed by our Bishop to serve Grass Valley UMC in a half-time role.
Ron is married to Susan, his wife of 31 years and is the proud father of four adult children and six grandchildren. In his free time, Ron enjoys camping with Susan and their Border Collie, Jonah, fly-fishing and hiking. He has always had a great love for the outdoors and it is this love that prompted Ron’s return to the foothill area.
In reflecting back over his forty-six year career in ministry, Ron acknowledges that while much has changed in our culture and in our church during that time, there remains a fundamental hunger for the acceptance, compassion and love that lives at the epi-center of the Christian faith. “As we seek to make our way in this “post-Covid” world,” he notes, “we have the opportunity to provide the sense of community and care that so many seem to be looking for.”
While Ron is mindful of the flaws and foibles of institutional religion, he is convinced that, when we are at our best, we can overcome those flaws by focusing on our attention on the choice to live and love in the way of Jesus.
While Ron acknowledges that much has changed in the world that we have come to know, our calling to follow Jesus remains essentially the same. Ron is excited to share in the spiritual journey of our Grass Valley congregation and is looking forward to the opportunities to create and cultivate new ways of being in ministry to our community and the greater community beyond.
